SPOTLIGHT MODEL INTERVIEW

Meet Kim and her 4 super cute models! Kim's ebay id is Wifeandmotherofpilots.
I have four girls who model my oldest Amber only rarely models, mostly because she is a size 14 girls or adult 0, XS. She does have something coming up soon but she is currently on vacation and the designer is waiting to send the items til she comes home. EEEk, she is starting high school this year. Her favorite colors are pink and yellow, and she prefers to have her room painted that way but when we moved into base housing last year we didn’t paint before moving her furniture in, but I have been debating it recently.

Photobucket

Kelsey is a size 7/8. She is currently doing a lot of changing(you know those awesome preteen years, she is 9 ½) and prefers to have an older look to her outfits but still loves boutique clothing. Kelsey is a true blue girl, she is all about every thing blue and she loves cherries (she recently grew out of that allergy) so she is begging me to make her an outfit out of the new confections line. If anyone has one I am sure her love of the fabric would really show in her photos.

Photobucket

Kammie is a size 4/5 and is 7 years old. She just LOVES getting to model all of the awesome sets that we get in the mail. She is high maintenance already.  She is very much into making sure she looks good all the time and is really into trying to do her own hair. Kammie like her sister loves the colors pink and yellow but she really looks awesome in red. I know blondes should steer away from red but I love it on her.

Photobucket

Jaylee is a 4t and is 5 years old. She is a spunky little little character I tell ya!!! She definitely has her own sense of style(which is usually bold and bright), and prefers to where boutique clothing most every day. So I definitely stay busy sewing and buying for her. Jaylee’s favorite color is green I think mostly because it is my favorite color.

Photobucket

We are currently modeling in natural light and outdoor locations only. I do edit my pics for the designers and I also keep them hosted for the designer as well. We are free models and are having a great time with it. We have been staying quite busy these days and that is what we love. I don’t think we function well as a family unless we have every second of our day full.

If we are not at home you can usually find us at the dance studio. All four girls dance A LOT. Amber takes pointe, ballet, tap, musical theatre and jazz with an occasional lyrical or contemporary workshop thrown in. Their instructor that teaches the lyrical and contemporary recently transferred to ASU and so when she comes home she spends most of her time teaching her old students new routines that they work on til the next time she is in town. Kelsey only takes mustical theatre, tap and jazz. Kammie takes musical theatre, tap, jazz and ballet and has advanced out of combo classes. Jaylee takes musical theatre, tap, jazz and ballet. She loves dance but like any little one has her bad days (ballet can be a rough day if she hasn’t taken her nap). My hubby even takes the musical theatre class to be able to spend some extra time with the girls since he is away so much. He even played the John Travolta roll in Hairspray for their last recital. Boy, he loves them!!!! Occasionally, we have such a busy week that pics are taken either at dance or in the downtown area next to dance while we are on a break or right after. The deck is at dance and the others are in the downtown area across the street.

Photobucket

Kammie won a model marathon last year with these pics.

I use a Nikon D80 that I got as a gift last October from my DH when we was going to be deployed for the second Christmas in a row. Yeah me!!! The only stipulation was that I took tons of pics while he was gone, which I did and sent him a scrapbook for Christmas. I love to scrapbook and that is probably the reason we got into modeling was to improve my photography skills. I just love capturing every minute on film(or digital as it would be). I just got a new lens yesterday that I am just too excited to start using, a 50mm f/1.4D. Photography is an art and for me it takes practice, practice, practice. I am really trying to grow as a photographer and luckily I have such great friends that I have met through ebay to help me out and such cuties to practice with. I am not a professional photographer like some here on ebay that model on the side. But I DO strive to take the best photos that I can and to make the designer completely happy with the end product. But, I am human and that isn’t always possible. If ever a designer is unhappy I would encourage them to say so, the only way to get better at things is constructive criticism.

Photobucket

This is just goofing around before going to our Fall Festival at church last year.

Generally, we fix hair at home and then drive to a location for photos. We have an suv so I keep the outfits laid out or hanging in the back and we change in the car at the location. We have two locations that we really love because they are so versatile, a boutique mall near my house and the waterfront marina. We did have a couple weeks ago that we modeled several items and it was 117 outside, we had to cool off with the pics inside the library and then the fountain outside afterward where the spray kept them a bit cool.

And these at the waterfront.

We don’t have a favorite style to model but we are a pretty conservative family so there are things that we don’t model for those reasons, halters, witches, skulls anything that would be scary or risque. We have had to turn things down for these reasons. Although, I have to say we have a designer that is designing something for Kammie to model right now for our trip to Disneyland in a couple weeks (it is a halter, but the back is completely covered the way it will be done). I have seen the sketches and my DH and I are ok with how it will be presented. If a designer really wants us to model a certain item and it is a halter we tell them up front that we will wear it with a shirt under and if that is ok, we do it.

Some of the ebay photographers that have inspired me are

Brandi of ady*bitty*boutique, kelly of surfermomkelly, Monica of Maddiesbowtique, Beth of my_lil_cayla_bug and Robin of lil*boutique*models
and a couple other are jodi of mcp, and my dear friends Allison and Misha (non ebayers) if you can believe it.

Some of our first modeling shots were these so I feel that I am improving.

Photobucket

I loved the crooked look WAY too much.

Photobucket

Editing I messed them up.

Photobucket

Wasn’t always aware of my lighting.

The following are some of my more recent shots. All done in the last two weeks.

Photobucket

Even the trusty wood fence can still be my friend. I love it but I did over do it when I first started out.

Photobucket

My two youngest are relatively the same size so I do sometimes take pics of both girls in the same outfit for a variety for the designer.

SPOTLIGHT DESIGNER INTERVIEW

This weeks' Designer Spotlight Interview is the fabulous designer...
Kimberly Dunn
Her ebay id is lli_boutique

What is your main area of design
- Children's clothing - primarily girls

What other items do you design and create -
I also make I Spy Bags and other educational handmade items.

Do you have any kids and how many?
I have 2 children. My son, Gabe is 11 and my daughter, Emmalee Grace is 8.

What is your typical day like?
LOL! Typical days...do they exist...especially during the Summer! My goal for the day is to try and complete my to do list which may include computer work, sewing, or just relaxing by the pool with my kiddos!

Is this a hobby, business or both?
My hubby thinks it is a business ;) but I like to consider it my business and hobby. I enjoy every aspect of being able to work from home but still being able to use my creativity and design.

Can you share with us what has inspired your favorite or most creative design.
Fabric inspires me most of the time and that is certainly true about the set I just listed. I fell in love with the fabric because it has a very angelic and vintage look. I knew I had to add gingham and a pop of red to complete the look of the dress. Adding pockets to the dress and pantaloons compliments the vintage look and I am so glad that I added them at the end! Of course this set would not be complete with out the collaboration with the ladies in my group and the wonderful job my model and her mommy did with the pictures.

Tell us about your designing space! We really want to know Do you have a room all of your very own, a small desk in your living room etc or perhaps even an office you design in? Tell us about it!
Wow, I really got lucky on this one girls! We found this house about a year ago. It has a master suite downstairs and upstairs. The previous owners added on the suite downstairs to care a sick family member. Guess what...that is my studio! I not only have an entire room but also a bathroom! I have several closet organizers and shelves that house my fabric. I sew from a 6 foot table located in the middle of the room. I have a separate table that I use for my computer. And of course, my trusty ironing board is set up too!

Would you say your a shop-a-holic? Addicted to fabric, ribbon, beads or?
I am totally addicted to fabric! I know you ladies that love fabric can relate to what I do. I love going shopping for fabric...finding the "one" (such a rush!) and admiring it as I check out. So, I get home with it, take it out of the bag, admire it some more, fold it neatly and place it on my shelf, admire it again and... that is the end...I have to tell myself that it is ok to cut into it but it just looks so pretty sitting there! lol

Can you share your favorite place to shop? Or is it a secret?
I don't have any specific place that I shop but I do find more unique items online!
When shopping for supplies how often do you hide it from your spouse?
I don't hide things from my spouse. And usually, I am so excited that I share the minute I get home...I am sure that he does not get as excited as I do about my finds but he does love hearing about all my great deals!

Storage! Are you highly organized with nice neat totes, boxes, bins...all neatly labeled with everything in it's place or do you stuff and stash in any (or all) available nooks and crannies in your home?
I am somewhat in between a neat freak and pack rat!LOL I do love for everything to have its place and my supplies remain in my studio but not everything is labeled.
Are you in any design or specialty groups?
I am a member of N S t y l e Boutique. It is a wonderful group of ladies that are so talented! We each have our own nitch which makes a great group!

How do you come up with your designs?
I grab inspiration from many places! I could be looking at a magazine while at the doctor's office or driving down the interstate and see a bill board!

SPOTLIGHT GROUP INTERVIEW

We have a fantastic interview on an eBay Design Group! Gioncarla, the leader of this quirky and awesome group, was not forced in anyway to participate in answering my prying questions! LOL All kidding aside, she and her weirdo designers have made this one quite interesting group of eclectic girls who LOVE to design "outside the design box". They have a launch running right now that you absolutely HAVE to check out! Now for this awesome interview...

Are you an exclusive group, specialty group or non-exclusive?
We are an open to all, non-discriminatory, non-exclusive, no questions asked group. My first rule was to RELAX. If you launch/don’t launch its really no biggie, just come on in and have fun! Leave with or without explanation and the only real "rule" is that Drama is not tolerated in any way, shape or form. We're here to inspire each other to try something different, first and foremost!

How many designers do you currently have and who are your designers?
There are 28 of us. see our about me page or our blog for a complete list!

How long has your group been active?
Well, we came together in May to have one huge launch in July.

Do you girls take any time off for summer or holiday's?
So far we are an annual walk on the wild side. Nothing more. Nothing Less=-)

Is there a special story behind your group?
Not an unusual one really, I was tired of the same old thing and had just come out of a rather painful group experience and wanted to try some stuff out of the ordinary and let go of the stress my former group had caused by letting go of the "rules" of designing and thought perhaps I wasn’t alone. I put the call out and the response was outstanding!

Does your group name mean anything?
Just what it is -"Eccentricity" We bring you the eccentric, non-practical, wild and fabulous boutique items!

Did you have a lot of interest when you first started your group? Do you have a waiting list running???
Well we pretty much have the original excited members. Boy, are they some crazy/fun chicks! LOL I adore all of them! I haven't had to remove anyone or turn anyone away. Its been a very easy-going experience! We are still gaining new members even during the launch! Its great!

How often do you launch together?
So far its an annual thing. Although, the idea of doing another "freakshow" launch is being tossed around right now....scary, ain't it? LOL

Tell us anything else about your group that you would like to share about the group, upcoming launches, special talents, etc.
I would just have to emphasize the great talent in this group but that is nothing in comparison to the great heart these ladies have. Maybe that isn't a surprise for most people to find in a group but it has been so much fun! Its unbelievable! These ladies continue to amaze me in every way! If we never do anything again, this experience alone has given me inspiration to last a lifetime!

SPOTLIGHT DESIGNER INTERVIEW

I have an interview today of one of eBay's own and BBCD's...Carrie of punkyfaedesigns!
Sit back and enjoy the Spotlight Interview on this fab designer!

What is your main area of design:
Girls Clothing

What other items do you design and create:
Hair Clippies.. Bottle Cap Clippies are my specialty!!

Do you have any kids and how many?
Yes, 1 daughter Jordan Fae who will be 3 in a few weeks.

What is your typical day like?
What is a typical day?? LOL I am an early riser so I am usually on the computer by 6am EST.. Once Jordan wakes up that's a whole other question.. I like to squeeze some sewing in before lunch.. then we are off and running.. whether it be to the stores or out in the backyard..

Is this a hobby, business or both?
It is a hobby that I am trying to make into a business.. I sew for my daughter first and then offer what I make for her..

Can you share with us what has inspired your favorite or most creative design.
This is by far my favorite set I have ever made!! It was inspired by the gorgeous fabrics by Jennifer Pagnelli.. As soon as I saw these fabrics I knew I had to use them!! They are simply gorgeous in person!!

DO you SisBoom??

Tell us about your designing space! We really want to know :) Do you have a room all of your very own, a small desk in your living room etc or perhaps even an office you design in? Tell us about it!

My design space is my kitchen table.. right now since I am busy with BTS and haloween we are only using half a table at dinner time because I have all of my supplies in Rubbermaid bins on the other half so I can pull them out when I have some spare time to work!! I will be turning half my closet into a storage area for my out of season fabrics this week!!

How often do you shop for supplies?
Daily.. LOL

Would you say your a shop-a-holic? Addicted to fabric, ribbon, beads or? UM yeah.. the girls in Joanns know me by name and set aside new fabrics they know ill like and usually do!!

Can you share your favorite place to shop? Or is it a secret?
:) I love Joanns and Micheals..

When shopping for supplies how often do you hide it from your spouse?
I don't have to because I go while he's at work.. I just add what I buy to the pile and he has no idea.. The only time I have to answer to what that is, is when he gets the mail on Saturday and there is another box from fabric.com.. LOL

Storage! Are you highly organized with nice neat totes, boxes, bins...all neatly labeled with everything in it's place or do you stuff and stash in any (or all) available nooks and crannies in your home?

I live in a state of organized chaos.. I know where everything is in my MESS as my dh calls it.. Some things are in totes or separated into JUMBO Ziplocs but all in all everything is in a pile, that started out as a laundry basket on a table.. but ask me where one fabric is and I can find it in a split second!!

Are you in any design or specialty groups?
I am a Proud member of Memory Lane as well as So*Sweet*Bow*Tique

How do you come up with your designs?
I am a pattern a holic.. I must have over 100.. I get a lot of inspiration form my vintage patterns but sometimes it comes from the fabric.. But most of the time it is my almost 3 yr old handing me a pile of fabric saying I want a dress made from this Momma!

Here are some of Carrie's favorite and best selling designs so far!
We think they are just so adorable!!

Thanks, Carrie!
